NE1's Street Rangers and Rapid Response Clean Team are an invaluable tool for the city's businesses to ensure the city environment is as good as it can possibly be, working tirelessly 364 days of the year to guarantee we as a city are getting the basics right.

Whilst it may not be glamorous, the work the Street Rangers and Clean Team do on a day-to-day basis is integral and they are a tremendously popular and much-valued element of NE1's delivery in the heart of the city.

The Clean Team remove in excess of 3,500 bags of litter from the city's streets every year, as well as removing 630 graffiti tags and jet-washing a staggering 108,000 square metres, and are on hand to respond to business requests for cleansing within the hour, ensuring businesses can focus on what is important to them.

The Street Rangers are a welcoming face on the city's streets, responding to 17,625 business interactions and more than 18,850 public interactions annually, as well as recovering £128,000 worth of stolen stock. In addition to their day-to-day duties, the Street Ranger team in particular supports other city centre stakeholders and businesses with a variety of services. This can range from distributing collection points to over 200 businesses on behalf of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal to distributing notifications and information for businesses and events as varied as the Great Run Company, North of Tyne’s Under the Stars, and Newcastle City Council’s City Centre Transformation Programme.
