NE1’s team of Street Rangers will monitor and patrol Old Eldon Square during the Screen on the Green screenings, and NE1 will also be working closely with Northumbria Police and the City Council to increase the frequency of patrols in and around the area to tackle any anti-social behaviour, and to ensure that Old Eldon Square is a safe space for families with children especially during the school summer holidays.
People will be able to comfortably enjoy the open-air screenings with NE1’s signature deckchairs, bean bags, and other outdoor seating providing ample space for audiences to settle down and enjoy the sporting action, and the movies throughout the summer.
The full summertime movie programme is being kept under wraps and will be released nearer the launch date, in time for people to find their favourites and plan their visits.
Screen on the Green forms one of the major parts of NE1’s Summer in the City activity programme with other free events and activities planned every day across the city during the school summer holidays.

Ben Whitfield, Director of Communications at NE1 said:
“We are delighted to be launching Screen on the Green with an exciting programme of sporting fixtures for people to enjoy, for free, in the heart of the city before the summer movie schedule gets underway in the school holidays. We can’t wait to get behind England’s Lionesses as they battle it out to, hopefully, win the Championships and we can’t wait to watch the stars play at Wimbledon, with the British Grand Prix and Tour De France both also set to be broadcast on the big screen.’
“Screen on the Green is a much-loved part of NE1’s Summer in the City activity programme and is a favourite with families and people of all ages. We love animating the city with fun, free activities during the summer holidays, giving people more reasons to plan their visit to the city centre and to stay longer when they are here, enjoying all that the city has to offer. Let’s hope the sun stays out!”
