Seven days, over 100 restaurants, and the traditional offer of dining out for only £10 or £15 per head at some of the city’s top restaurants, NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week returns from 6 -12 August with almost 50,000 people expected to take part over the course of the week.

NE1 NEWCASTLE RESTAURANT WEEK

NE1 Newcastle Restaurant is twice yearly and much anticipated in Newcastle’s event calendar with a week in January and one in August – an event that has been running in the city since its first launch in 2011.

Among the big name restaurants signed up this summer are some of the originals who have taken part in every one of the 16 NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Weeks.  Terry Laybourne’s 21 Hospitality Group and Andy Hook’s Blackfriars are among the original 13 who helped launch the initiative and have remained firm supporters of the event ever since.

The event is expected to beat all records for the number of participating restaurants and number of diners surpassing January’s event, which attracted over 45,000 diners and gave a £1/2 million boost to business and the local economy.

Nine new restaurants, new to the city and new to NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week, will be joining the fold this August offering a range of different dining options from seafood to Cuban with a host of international flavours included in the mix.

All are opening their doors to diners for their first NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week and many have sought advice from NE1 on what to expect.

Stephen Patterson, Director of Communications at NE1 said:

“We approach each new NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week with the same excitement as the first.  It is a great event and people genuinely love it and look forward to the weeks.  This summer, we are delighted to welcome nine new restaurants into the fold.  We have been quick to advise them to prepare themselves for the onslaught.  NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week produces two of the busiest weeks of the year for participating restaurants and for NE1 Ltd.  As soon as the offers launch on our GetintoNewcastle website, the visitor traffic spikes with record numbers of people downloading the NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week voucher and reviewing the offers!’’

The idea for NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week came from New York where twice a year restaurants offer diners the chance to eat out at some of the city’s best restaurants for a fixed priced menu.  The idea translated well to Newcastle and the event has grown each time it has been held with more restaurants taking part and more diners enjoying the offer.

21 Hospitality Group is one of the original participants and all six of the restaurants in the group will be taking part this August. Terry Laybourne said:

“We are keen supporters of NE1 Ltd and have always enjoyed taking part in NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week. Having NE1 Ltd, a BID company looking out for the interests of the restaurant community in the city, is a huge support for business and initiatives like NE1 Restaurant Week help bring us all together to celebrate Newcastle’s culinary credentials. It is no coincidence that the growth of dining in Newcastle and the growing popularity of NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week have gone hand in hand. Success breeds success and NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week has helped give diners a high value offer while promoting the sector at a traditionally quiet time of the year.”
