The BID

A BID is a company established and run by the business community to address issues and priorities identified by that community. The overall aim of a BID is to enhance the business environment and deliver real results.

Over 90 BIDs operate in the UK, but NE1's BID district is by far the largest with 1,200 members, most other BIDs have half this number.

The BID Company itself is run by a Board of Directors appointed in accordance with the Articles of Association by the Company's members; the business rate payers who pay the Levy.

In Newcastle, businesses came together through the Newcastle Business Improvement District BID to take the lead in tackling issues facing the city.

The business community recognised that Newcastle is a fantastic city. It offers so much to do, see and enjoy with world-class professional services and exceptional academic and research facilities that attract people into the city from around the world. But there are key areas where improvements can be made to secure its place in the "Premier League" of European Cities and working together provides a cost-effective way to deliver these improvements.

Newcastle's BID district covers Newcastle city centre, the NE1 postcode area, as shown by the red outline on the BID Area Plan or by the list of streets.
